Formal Entrance – Down House

The home of Charles Darwin, now owned and maintained by the English Heritage, is the home where Darwin wrote ‘On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection‘ in 1859 about his groundbreaking works on the Theory of Evolution. Darwin and his wife, Emma, moved into their home in 1842, where they remodelled the house and the gardens. Darwin lived in the house till his death in 1882,
