Thrifty…

Now I don’t know about you, but the cost of living is taking its toll in this house a bit. Heating is now on a lower setting… and takeaways are now a luxury. Everyone is being thrifty with their disposable income nowadays.

Here in the UK, you can spend anything between £15-20 for a large pizza. I know they do offers but even then, for us a pizza night is costing nearly £30-35.

So, the other day whilst shopping, I spied a flaky pastry ready rolled sheet. And thought I would try something out.

I placed the pastry sheet on a tray leaving the greaseproof paper.

On top of that I cover the pastry sheet with tomato puree. Next, I sprinkled grated cheese and chopped onion. After that it was sliced mushrooms, and tomatoes as well as s sprinkle of fresh basil and parsley.

A photograph of my alternative to a pizza.

Serve with a side salad and you have a meal that costs a fraction of buying a take-away pizza. And it didn’t taste bad either. About 10 mins to prepare and 25 mins to cook, you can’t go wrong with that.

  1. Well done you. You can actually buy pizza base dough in the same section as pastry to be even more authentic. We’re struggling to work out ways of using our oven less. That’s an energy guzzler too. But last year I bought a brilliant slow cooker – in a charity shop! It was £1.50 I think!

    1. We have a slow cooker… and I’m using that more. It is scary what is happening. We are tightening our belts, but I dread to think what will happen after April when the fuel cap ends.

      1. I can’t believe it won’t be replaced by something else. Luckily, April is relatively warm …

  2. One of my biggest problems with food photography is getting the food to look as good as it tastes – in this case it looks so good I can’t even imagine how good it tastes! Will have to try it…

    1. It is nice… especially with a side salad. I think that is about the first thing I haven’t welded to the dish. He swears I should get a job at Finnish and really test how good their tablets are. 😀 😀 😀

  3. Your creation looks delicious, Bren! Yes, please. In Pounds or Dollars, that’s just way too expensive for a pizza. 🇬🇧❤️

      1. Do you mean Carry Out? Kidding, why we call it carry out I don’t know. Food in the grocery stores here became ridiculously expensive after the pandemic slowed way down.

  6. We’ve taken to eating out less or doing take-out preferring to make more meals at home. We can save what we didn’t spend on eating in restaurants on our road trips. 🙂

Your pizza takeaway sounds very expensive.
I’m pleased to see the pingbacks are working again. Did you find the cause of the problems?

    1. Thank you xx It is getting so expensive in the South East.

Yes, it was to do with the menus. I created a new menu in customizer and then imported it into the site-editor and pingbacks started to work.
