Back in 2015, I had so many different diagnoses’ as to what was wrong with me and eventually, they diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia/Polymyalgia Rheumatica and arthritic. My hips were getting to feel the effects of the arthritis and we decided to embark on a once in a lifetime journey. Yes, we went on a Great Rail Experience to the West Coast of the USA. Starting off in San Francisco and finishing in Monterey before heading home.

Places we visited in San Francisco

I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care

Lyrics Sung by Tony Bennett

To ride in a cable car and to see the crooked street known as Lombard Street, is sheer delight.

I couldn’t believe that it was a regular thing for the fog to roll in and cover the Golden Gate Bridge…. But to drive over that bridge and view the sights of San Francisco was breath-taking.

My whole life I wanted to visit San Francisco and in 2015 I made it.

However, nobody warned us about the microclimates that San Francisco has to offer. One minute you are sweltering, the next you chilly. It is like the whole city has mini-areas of different weather, depending on where you are.

I truly left my heart there… as we headed for

          1. That bad, eh? My dad recently suggested that I take the Amtrak train from Vegas to Michigan. Sounds cramped! 🤨

              1. I have to wear a CPAP machine/mask at night, I suppose they don’t have a 110 Volt plug in the sleepers.

                1. I’m not sure … I was expecting something like you see in the James Bond movies and I ended with a broom cupboard. 🤣

  2. Sounds like a good splurge and that’s a lovely photo. We’d like to take the train ride across Canada someday with stops on Glacier National Park.

        1. It’s Janet but that’s fine. My husband has had one hip replacement and will probably have the other one done in the next year or so. Takes longer at airports. 🙁

  5. I lived in the SF Bay area for 20 years. Crossed that bridge hundreds (thousands?) of times and it still takes my breath away. Your photos are fabulous. Can you see my heart? It’s still lodged there, for sure.

    1. I just loved that city… We used to breakfast in the Village Cafe just behind our hotel… And the Palace of Fine Arts just blew my mind away, with its architecture and where it was set.
