The last time we visited Great Comp Gardens near Sevenoaks in Kent was 6 years ago. Back in the wheelchair days before having my first hip replacement. I’ll never forget it 😀 😀 😀 It was one of my first times out in the wheelchair and he was pushing and had the tendency to let go of the wheelchair without telling me to put the brake on. 😀 😀 😀 Personally I think it was payback time 😀 😀 :D. But I did end up in a few hedges and borders. 😀 😀 😀

So today on the spur of the moment, I said let’s go back there. Luckily, this time without a wheelchair. So off we went. Great Comp is great for garden lovers. With plenty of plants, wooded areas to walk around and a lovely tea-room/cafe.

I was in my element when I came the hydrangea bushes… Lately, I have been using my Canon 600D, as it is lighter than the 70D but today, I thought I would try out the 70D with my 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens.

It takes a bit of getting used to, having to shift yourself and not zoom in with camera… In fact, I think it was a good learning curve for me.

For landscape it is not very good, but for capturing flowers, it was fantastic. But by the end of the stroll, I was managing to get sharper pictures and getting used to moving myself away to focus in better. And I was beginning to feel the weight of the camera and lens in my wrist.

There is much to see at Great Comp, with its architecture and secluded gardens, as well as the woodland. As we headed for a cuppa, we came across this brick wall with a circular hole and path through it.

Great Comp Gardens are fairly flat to walk around and they have plenty of benches to rest up on. The gardens are so beautiful and it is garden that changes with the seasons. At the moment, the main house is going through a restoration project. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed in the gardens. I can understand why, because the paths are very narrow to walk around… so not ideal for dogs on leads.

And, as we are Over 60 our admission fee was £7.50 with adults under 60 paying £8.50, children aged 6-17 pay £3. With the under 5’s gaining free admission.
