This week’s Five at Five Intro features Photographer Brian aka as Bushboy Photography. Brian’s About Page says:

This blog began a while ago where I wanted to write stuff.  It has evolved into my main interest photography. I love photo challenges. I try to do a wrap-up of stuff I have found during the month, sometimes you will need your favourite drink and a snack to scroll through the month. Every now and then the poet in me arrives especially when a photo just needs some words.

This bushboy has found a place in the world and is content to be able do what he wants and be able to share stuff with you……yes stuff is a word that gets used a bit as it is the universal word for everything.

Five at Five Questions

•  When and how did you start on your photographic journey? 

I was about 10 or so I guess and was given a little cheap camera called a Snappy for Christmas. Took B&W photos of stuff around the place with my sister who had one as well. I don’t know where the photos ended up. Maybe there’ll be some in the box of family photos I have somewhere. The next camera was an Agfa Instamatic. It used a cartridge film and was in square format. I must have some of those photos somewhere. I used to get onto the roof of the house to photograph sunsets. When I started working, I showed some photos to a bloke I worked with who was into photography. He sent me to a mates second hand camera shop, and I bought a Canon TLB. My first SLR and away I went.

• What subject do you like photographing the most? 

I am a nature photographer. I did take photos of people, but everyone said “I look terrible, get rid of those photos. Plants and animals don’t complain. I do love macro photography.

• Have you been influenced by other photographers, if so by whom and why? If not, who is your favourite photographer? 

This is a hard question. Almost anyone who takes photos is an influence.

• What is the go-to camera equipment that you use regularly and what software do you use to process your images? 

I only have one camera I use all the time; one I use as a back-up and rarely my phone. I love my Canon PowerShot SX70HS which is the third one I have bought. I started with a SX30HS. They are small and easy to use and great for all round photography. The other is a small hand size Canon PowerShot A1200 which I saw in a shop as I walked past, and it was only $75.00.

My software I use Corel PaintShop Pro Ultimate 2022. It has so many function that I have never used and some I use all the time. if I want to try something the Discovery Centre and Tutorials are easy to understand. I really want to do more especially collage 

• What is your favourite method of processing an image? (i.e., colour, monochrome, saturated, dreamy look etc) 

Probably the main one I use is called Smart Photo Fix which has sliders to manipulate an image and shows the result as you do it. The other main use is Photo Effects which has around 50 different themes. I probably use vignette or selective focus the most. Sometimes I use the other effects if I want to get arty farty.

Another favourite I haven’t used as much recently is Selective Colour.
