Yep… I’m staying put.

I’ve read a lot of articles recently where people are not happy with Adobe’s Creative Cloud. The price, the way Adobe ties you in…  How you can’t cancel your monthly subscription as and when you need to without you having to pay 50% of the remaining months of your contact.

But to me you knew when you signed up for Creative Cloud.. you agreed to the annual subscription with the payments spread over the next 12 months (where you a liable for 50% of the remaining months subscriptions) or a one-off payment (with no refund value). Again in my opinion, if you don’t read the terms of your annual contract then you only have yourself to blame not Adobe.  It clearly states you have a 14-day grace and after that you will still have to pay the 50% on the monthly payment scheme and no refund if you pay annually.

So I thought I would let you know why I’m staying put.

For the price of £9.98 a month, I get:

• Lightroom Classic
• Lightroom for Mobile
• Photoshop
• 20gb of Cloud Storage
• Photoshop Express
• Photoshop Camera
• My Own Portfolio Page (which I don’t use)
• Adobe Spark
• Photoshop on iPad (if I owned one)
• Camera RAW (used in Photoshop)
• Bridge
•  XD
• Premiere Rush
• Lightroom Plugins

The elements that I use on a regular basis are in Bold Italics.

Before this plan existed and Adobe decided to become a subscription-based entity,  all I had was Adobe Lightroom which I had to purchase… and then pay for updates or forsake the new features which came out with the next version of Lightroom.

With subscription… I get the latest updates which are included in my subscription.

Before Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop was well out of my reach.  I couldn’t afford to buy the Program.  I had to pay for Photoshop Elements, which again, I had to pay for time and time again, with every version change.

Again with Photoshop, I don’t have to worry about software updates… my subscription covers them.

I could save myself the money if I downloaded Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw which are free.  And I can use the free version of Lightroom Mobile (but I won’t be able to sync images between the mobile app and  Lightroom Classic).

By going free, I would lose the ability to install plug-ins, like I can in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, which allows me to use third-party software.  Like I can do now with Lightroom Classic and Photoshop!

Lightroom Classic is my main catalogue of all my images.  And the vast majority of my editing is done in Lightroom Classic.  I can send images to Luminar 4, On1, Topaz, and Nik collection, should I want to use these software programs.

If, I’m out and about with only my phone and want to take an image… fine snap that image, add it to Lightroom via the Lightroom App, which will save the image in the cloud storage and when I’m back on my desktop/laptop that image will automatically appear in Lightroom Classic.

I can then move the image to another folder, if I wish, as your images are downloaded to a folder called Lightroom Mobile on your desktop/laptop. I can add it to a collection, and if I so wish delete the image which will stop the image from syncing from Lightroom on my mobile device to Lightroom Classic on my desktop/laptop.  Again, if I remove the image from Lightroom mobile and stop it syncing that image doesn’t become part of my storage allowance!

For £9.98 a month… I could of course pay for the following,

• 1 and bit breakfasts at the Harvester.
• 4 and bit mugs of Starbucks Coffee
• 2 trips to Chatham on the bus.
• 1 trip to Bluewater on the bus.
• 20 Cigarettes if I smoked… which I don’t.

I can live without traipsing around Bluewater and Chatham.  And I have coffee at home… as well as the ingredients to cook breakfast.

So for me… £9.98 a month to stay up to date with a set of Photo Editing Programs is well worth the money.  And that is why I won’t be leaving Adobe Creative Cloud.

Because all software needs updating at some point or another and that means paying for updates.  So as my go-to software when editing photos Lightroom Classic is my first point of call and I will continue paying for their subscription-based software.
