Patti chose the topic history for this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge. Here is the South East of England we are steeped in history. The above house at Nymans in West Sussex was built around 1839 by a man called George Harrington and was originally a Regency House. However, in 1915, when Leonard, the son of the late Ludwig Messel inherited the house, the only way he could persuade his wife, Maud, to live there was to redesign the whole house… hence the mock-medieval style of the house.
In 1947 a fire destroyed parts of the house and still lies in ruins today.
Nymans has beautiful grounds and gardens to walk around and a wonderful rose garden.

Ruins are beautiful – and I loved the story of the remake!

Your shots are marvelous, Bren. Moody and atmospheric! Lovely! How sad that the house burned down, though.

Thank you XX Thankfully only part of it did burn down … That part has never been rebuilt which is such a shame. The grounds were hit badly in the 1987 hurricane and they lost a lot of their trees xx
