Guide the Viewer

As a photographer, we have the option of guiding your viewer to see the photo as you want it to be seen.  In some ways that is what composition it all about.   We have already covered leading lines and lines in general. Here are three more  tips which will help you.

• Bright Spot
• “S” Curve
• To Flip or Not To Flip the Horizon

In the photo below, I have created a bright spot in the water … and the natural white spot is the cliff-face.  This photograph has all three of the elements, with the S being the curves of the rocks and with the image being flipped to guide your eye to cliff-face.

In this photograph I have flipped the bird so that you look more at his beak and face than you do at his tail feathers.

 

A photograph I did earlier this week also has two of the elements required above… it has the curves of the trees as they surround the bright area in the distance.

 

This image I have flipped so that your eye is focussed more on the rings and light rather than the wires
